How to change a belt on a 1996 plymouth breeze?
Q. We are trying to change a serpentine belt on a 1996 plymouth breeze. There is a cover in the way and we aren't sure how to get that off. It is the one on the top by the alternator.
Asked by jashoard - Wed Jul 30 18:30:44 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Those type of covers usually snap into position and could have a bolt or screw holding them on, plus if bolt or screw is used their positioned about centre so it holds the cover more firmly, to keep them from rattling and more balanced etc. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you could get to a parts outlet then you could try calling around and seeing who offers a free print out and belts installation info and process for that vehicle.

How many miles should I drive my 1996 Cherveolt Lumini until I should consider buying a new vehicle?
Q. I was given a 1996 Cheverolt Lumini with 35000 miles on it. The car has been successfully maintained and will continue to be. Thus far, I have had to replace the car battery, fix a flat tire, replace the fan belt, fix an oil leak and a coolant leak. The car seems to operate flawlessly and it now has approximately 64000 miles on it.

How hard is it to replace the back manifold gasket on a 1996 Buick Century?

A. For the gasket on a 1 to 10 scale ..it would be an eight meaning tough. You can't use a tow bar on these cars, you need a dolly or call a tow truck. Sorry

A. you can get the part cheaper at an auto salvage and take it to any repair shop and they will hook you up. The cost of the light and bulb depends on where you get it and the repair shop shouldnt cost more than 50 dollars to put it in for you.

While driving my 1996 Lincoln Town Car on the highway it jerked shut down and it coasted to a stop?
Q. While driving my 1996 Lincoln Town Car on the highway, I experienced a jerk, the car shut down, and it coasted to a stop. I checked the battery and the battery was dead. I replaced the battery and then tried to start the vehicle and the battery cables started to smoke. Everything comes on the vehicle, it just will not start.
Asked by James - Tue Nov 17 23:28:33 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. there could be a direct short like bulldog says look for charred wires at the alt and starter could be a short in the ignition switch too, if the battery cables heated up while trying to crank the car it would indicate a huge amperage draw. try turning the key to the on position but do not crank it over and feel the battery cables for heating. does it turn over? be sure to watch out for car fires, it may be good to disconnect the negative cable until you get this figured out.

How do I repair a driverside window control on a 1996 Lincoln Town car?
Q. I have a 1996 Lincoln towncar with auto windows. The window will not roll up electrically. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Asked by honepie - Fri Jul 4 13:16:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First thing to check would be the fuse box. I'm not sure where it is in a 96 Towncar, but it's fairly easy to find if you have the owner's manual (you may also be able to Google it.) If the entire panel isn't working, then the fuse is probably the problem. If other things are working in that same panel then it's not likely a fuse. It could also be the motor that pushes the window up and down. Or it could be that you need to pull out the control panel and replace it. If it's the motor, that's a more complicated repair.

How much does it cost to rebuild a manual transmission for a 1996 Mazda B3000?
Q. I just got this 1996 Mazda B3000, and the transmission chatters in 3rd and Overdrive. What causes the chatter, and how much would it cost to have a professional rebuild the whole transmission, or at least the chattering gears?
Asked by zhoeffner - Sat Nov 17 19:36:51 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A rebuild may not be the best option here. Instead a good remanufactured unit would probably be cheaper. You have to factor in the labor costs of an garage to do the job. They typically range near the $100/hr for such a job. Then you still have to buy the parts that they will need. The Mazda B3000 is a Ford Ranger if I remember correctly. Start shopping for a reman unit. The link I provided claims that many tranny problems do not require an complete replacement. However, when we did my sisters 1994 Dodge Shadow, it cost us $1500 total for a reman tranny. The chattering you hear may be either a loose trans mounts or the gears themselves are loose. Before you drop an bundle of cash into it, look into that link I provided. They are very good… [cont.]

1996 bmw 735i. How do i bleed the cooling system and free it from air?
Q. Only had this car 24 hours and the temperature shot up quickly after an 80 mile journey. The expansion tank shot the lid off as this was the weakest point. I have replaced that but the system is still overheating and water is coming out from somewhere. I need to bleed this of air and try to locate the leak. I`m hoping it is not the rad or water pump and just a hose but if anyone can help me, i would be very grateful. The car is the 1996 E38 steptronic 735i model. Thanks.

A. It sounds like a block in the radiator. I would remove radiator and flush it out and then get it pressure tested. This is why I think your lid shot off. Once you replace the radiator fill with anti freeze and run the engine as it warms up the thermostat will open and you just continue adding anti freeze until the radiator and engine are full. It is also a good idea to have the heater operating while you do this to ensure the whole system is flushed. Then just top up your reservoir tank and hopefully you will be motoring on :-) all the best

How long can I drive my 1996 Ford Explorer with the front drive shaft only?
Q. I have a 1996 Ford Explorer that I want to tow behind my RV. The owners manual suggests that I must remove the rear drive shaft before doing this. It also suggests that I can engage 4WD mode in order drive the vehicle without reinstalling the shaft, however, it says that I can only drive up to 50 miles in this manner and no further. Does this mean that I cannot drive more than 50 miles for as long as I own the vehicle or does it mean no more than 50 miles per trip?

A. 50 miles per trip. It isn't going to damage the transfer case.
