A. It showed us that the ideals of the US legal system should always take precedence over vigilante justice or "I know they're guilty, just hang them". If they don't, then we may as well throw out the constitution.

A. John Adams's greatest accomplishment was, without a question, his diplomatic work at the the Continental Congress. Adams was the voice for independence and Jefferson wielded the pen. Without the ideas and accomplishments of those two men, there most likely would not be the United States of American today. Also, Hamilton was killed by Vice President Aaron Burr in a duel.

What were ways Thomas Jefferson supported John Adams?
Q. I mean when John Adams was president, when America was having conflict with France, when the Alien and Sedition acts came out, and other events that happened near those time periods.
Asked by Issy - Wed Jan 30 20:03:26 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. they didn't support each other at all...in fact, they despised each other Basically, in the 1800 election, Jefferson won over Adams, and Adams did all that he could to hurt Jefferson's administration way before Jefferson took the inaugural oath in March 1801<> And even before that, Adams and the Federalist dominated Congress passed the Alien and Sedition acts which the Republicans were against. This formed an even larger rift between the parties than before. So, I definitely would not say that Jefferson supported Adams at all.

A. Umm the person above is referring to John QUINCY Adams, not John Adams. What was memorable? I'll list some feats he did. I would say that he was the most vital figure in the American independence movement in Congress (Second Continental Congress). He's the one that led the independence movement, but he also made sure to compromise with the other side, and he basically fought for independence with extraordinary skill and determination. Then he served as one of the earliest American diplomat; he was the first American diplomat to the Netherlands and Britain, and he was one of the Americans who signed the Treaty of Paris with Britain to end the American Revolution. He wrote the Massachusetts Constitution, the oldest functioning written… [cont.]

A. John Adams was a prominent Boston Attorney, back before the massacre happened he wasn't all that crazy about revolution, he wanted England to re-institute their policy of salutatory neglect. Meaning England stayed out of internal affairs in the colonies and the colonies stayed out of international affairs. It really wasn't a bad deal and he knew that. It was just when after 150 years of internal self rule, The King and Parliament started to crack down on the colonies there were revolts galore. John Adams was very good friends with the Kings Appointed Governor of Massachusetts at the time, he almost became a tax collector himself. After the massacre he defended the british solders that fired into the crowd. He was such a brilliant… [cont.]

I just saw the movie of John Adams. Why is it that Alexander Hamilton was so close to George Washington?
Q. It was a great movie series to watch. A bit curious on your input, both personal and from a historical perspective. Should Mr. president John Adams be considered, too, one of the greatest presidents?
Asked by Insignia - Sun Jan 4 10:24:44 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, the movie was based after the book, John Adams, by David McCullough. A very good book but it shows everything from Adams' point of view, read Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow and you will see everything from Hamilton's point of view. It is very different indeed. I think Adams should be considered a good, but not great president. He kept us out of war with France but he also passed the Alien and Sedition acts which were in violation of the Bill of Rights. That tarnishes his legacy the most. He was the 2nd president, between Washington and Jefferson, two giants, so he is often overlooked. But I'd say he is probably in the top 15 presidents. As for why Hamilton was so close to Washington is simple. During the Revolution, Hamilton… [cont.]

How well does the John Adams HBO miniseries follow the book by David McCullough?
Q. I am running out of time on my summer reading so I am thinking about watching the John Adams HBO miniseries instead of reading the book (because the book is 650 pages long!). I have to write an essay on the book, so is the John Adams HBO miniseries similar enough to the book John Adams by David McCullough that I can still write a good essay?

A. I didn't see all the episodes, but the ones I saw were very good. The only thing is that sometimes teachers are aware of these things and ask you some meaningless question not in the movie just to trip you up. You should at least skim the book. When does school start? Pax-C

A. John Adams and the Federalists passed the Alien and Sedition Acts -- they imprisoned, fined and deported their critics. This was clearly a violation of the First Amendment. Reaction to this was part of the reason that Adams did not get reelected. Jackson did get reelected.

A. he is on Look for the ones with descendants. Most people do "My Ancestors", so you will find many lines that go down to living individuals, but I doubt any tree will have all of his descendants. If it did, the details for people still living will be hidden, to preserve their privacy. If you want to see if you are related, you'll have to trace back "up" until you get to a common ancestor with one of the thousands of people you will find there.

A. John Adams didn't really have many obstacles. He was born wealthy, and had a good road laid down for him societally and educationally by his parents. During the Revolutionary War, he had to worry about being captured by the British, I suppose, but that never came close to happening. During his presidency, he had issues with a split in his political party between his moderate Federalists and the more radical faction of the party, which believed in a stronger Federal power, and speech restrictions, and were led by Alexander Hamilton Adams messed up by keeping many of Washington's cabinet, who were aligned with Hamilton, and also, due to a quirk of the electoral voting system back then, which was created before political parties were,… [cont.]

Did Thomas Jefferson ironically prompt the inception of the Alien & Sedition Acts by humiliating John Adams?
Q. Jefferson was terribly against these Acts for their unconstitutionality though he paid off newspaper and pamphlet writers to continually berate and humiliate John Adams publically when Adams obviously affected in a deep way in which Jefferson knew explicitly. So in a way, didn't Jefferson ironcally almost "cause" the Alien and Sedition Act to be put into place by taking political advantage of a decent man who was sincerely only trying to preserve the Union?

A. Ah poor John Adams cr^pped upon by History while Thomas Jefferson stands sainted and above reproach...Yes your argument is valid unfortunately it falls upon mostly deaf ears. One of the oddities of History is that John Adams who, in spite of fame as lawyer & politician, preferred to be thought of as a farmer and took delight in taking in the hay, a man who lived within his means and disdained credit, a man who opposed Slavery, Adams was then and even now dubbed an aristocrat and treated harshly while slave owning Jefferson who despite words to the contrary disliked people and limited his dining to a very select circle, Jefferson who lived beyond his means and stiffed his creditors, Jefferson then and now was called 'the man of the people,… [cont.]
