Calhoun, Henry Clay, William H. Crawford and Andrew Jackson. When none had a majority the House of Representatives chose Adam after Clay threw his support to him. When Adams named Clay secretary of state, Jackson's supporters in Congress charged that they had made a "corrupt bargain". He was not a popular president and served for only one term. I can't find much he did as president but he was later elected to the House of Representatives and served for 17 years. I have a presidential John Quincy Adams $1 coin that is missing the edge lettering. I know this is a mint error. I'm trying to find out how much this error coin is worth. The coin is in good condition. Anyone know of any good websites to look up the value of this (and other) mint error coins? Asked by Astro Lady - Sun Mar 28 21:22:32 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. There were quite a few of the Washington and John Adams from the first year issues that had the missing lettering, but any from the second year are much scarcer. I know of a few sites outside of eBay and couldn't find any record of recent sales of the J Q Adams. Someone has one for sale now on eBay, graded MS 65, and they're asking $5,000. That's a little excessive, IMO, but if you've got one, it's worth more than a few hundred. You should absolutely have it certified by either PCGS or NGC.
