A voting system or electoral system is a method by which voters make a choice between options, often in an election or on a policy referendum. A voting system contains rules for valid voting, and how votes are counted and aggregated to yield a final result. Common voting systems are majority rule, proportional representation or plurality voting with a number of variations and methods such as first-past-the-post or preferential voting. The study of formally defined voting systems is called voting theory, a subfield of political science, economics or mathematics. With majority rule, those who are unfamiliar with voting theory are often surprised that another voting system exists, or that "majority rule" systems can produce results not supported by a majority. If every election had only two choices, the winner would be determined using majority rule alone. However, when there are three or more options, there may not be a single option that is preferred by a majority. Different voting systems may give very different results, particularly in cases where there is no clear majority preference. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I just came up with a new voting system proposal. It consists of the following: voters would receive a ballot with the list of all the runoffs. A voter then must vote for 1 candidate in each runoff. Third party and major party voters would be treated the same since they both have to vote strategically in runoffs where a candidate from either a third party or major party isn't there. The winner would be the candidate that either wins every runoff or the one with the most points. Allocating points could be 3 points for a runoff victory and 1 for a runoff tie (just like in soccer). Should there be a tie between 2 candidates, the result of the runoff is considered. If the runoff was a tie, a ballot will be chosen at random to determine the… [cont.] Asked by derekgorman - Wed Jun 27 10:40:50 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Voting must be made on the specific candidate. The runoff election must only be made if there is a tie. Answered by FRAGINAL-NOYPI - Thu Jun 28 07:51:27 2007 How does the voting system here work? How long until a question goes into voting? Q. Thanks I'm new here :) And how long does a question stay on voting until it's resolved? Asked by Sam - Thu Apr 30 01:22:37 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. When you post a question, it remains open for 4 days. You can extend the expiry date to 7 days by moving your mouse to the pencil icon and choosing the option. Once the answer time is finished it is gone in voting You can also put your question to vote yourself or choose the best answer yourself. A question remains in voting for 2 days. When the voting time is finished the answer with most votes get best answer or if two answers have same amount of votes it becomes a tiebreaker. A tiebreaker question is in voting until it is resolved (voted by users). Yahoo has made a team to finish these questions. Join it. Any more info required? Q. What is the name for voting systems where you can see the results of how people have voted before you have to vote?
