Q. i am doing a timeline on Adolf Hitlers life and i have to have at least 20-25 main events, i have 16 so far and was wondering if anybody knew what were the date and places of 6/7 main assassination attempts? i know about operation valkyrie but does anybody know any others? thanks

A. Johann Georg Elser decided to kill Hitler by placing a time bomb in one of the columns behind the podium where Hitler was to give a speech in the Burgerbrau Beer Cellar in Munich. The bomb was set to detonate at precisely 9.20pm on Wednesday, November 8, 1939. At 8.10 Hitler enters the beer hall but at 9.12pm he suddenly ends his speech and departs. Eight minutes later the bomb explodes killing eight people and wounding sixty-five including Eva Braun's father. Seven of those killed were Nazi Party members. Was Abraham Lincoln's assassination a long term cause to the failure of Reconstruction?
Q. After Lincoln's assassination, why did Reconstruction fail? I was thinking it was because of the weak leadership after Lincoln. I'm also looking for long term causes to the failure of Reconstruction.

A. Largely, yes. While Andrew Johnson tried to implement Lincoln's plan for reconstruction, he wasn't Lincoln, who had been considered a hero for being the President during the Civil War. Distrust of Johnson by the Congress, and the inability of Johnson to inspire any support insured that the government would be split over how to do reconstruction and insured that the south would be resentful of everything. If Lincoln had survived, it would have been unlikely that the Congress could have become as "radical" as it did. Lincoln would have been able to persuade them to accept his plan, probably because Lincoln would have likely supported giving basic civil rights to the emancipated slaves.
