How would you remove a stripped hex screw from a motorcycle?
Q. I have one more bolt to remove from my rotor cover I'm trying to remove. The bolt is stripped and I'm having trouble remove it, what's the best and easiest way to remove it?
Asked by magix3d - Tue Jun 23 23:57:16 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you can get at the head, slot it with a Dremel and use a good screwdriver or impact driver to loosen it. Or, you may be able to drill through the head and get the cover off. Once there is no tension on the screw, the remaining bit will probably back out easily.

How do you handle a stripped screw?
Q. I am trying to replace a lock on my door, and the phillips head screw is stripped, so I can't turn the screw to take it out. How can I take out old locks?

A. There is axctually a small drill bit looking thing you can buy called a screw extractor. The screw gets a hole drilled in the center and then you put the extractor into the drill and then into the hole in the screw. It backward twists it. They make several sizes for different screws. Mine are from Vermont American company. Good luck.

A. Depending on the details... 1.) Grab the head of the screw with a Vise Grips tool and use it to twist the screw out. 2.) Use a saw or Dremel tool to cut a groove across the head of the screw and use a regular slotted screwdriver to take it out. 3.) Invest in a screw remover tool, like an Easy Out- drill a small hole into the screw and drive a reverse threaded bit into it. As you keep tightening the reverse tool, it will turn the screw out. 4.) Try a product like Screw Grab- a gritty material that makes screwdrivers or other tools fit the slot or hole in the head of the screw better. 5.) If all else fails, just drill a hole about the size of the screw right into the screw and drill it away. You usually end up with a bigger, chewed hole… [cont.]

A. Is it the lug or the nut that is stripped? If it's the nut that is rounded off, then find a socket that is a little bit smaller and beat it on with a hammer. If it's the lug itself, a cutting torch is the easy way to go on that. I doubt that you have one though. You could use a hammer and chisel to split the nut. If you live in the Kansas City area, let me know and I could come help you out. Good Luck

A. ok... i've had luck a couple of times by using a flat head screw driver with a tip that will fit diagonally in the hole the wrench fits in... if the head of the screw is exposed at all... sometimes you can grab it with pliers and twist it out... good luck

A. I am making the assumption you are referring to a vct or vinyl composition tile floor? If so the need for stripping will be controlled by many factors such as traffic load, soil type, color of product, owner expectations, how carefully you have planned your maintenance program, and the quality of products used. There is not enough room to give you the proper answer here. I will provide a link in this answer to a direct page (direct page meaning it is hidden and you will not be able to link to it from anywhere else on our site) it will give you a thorough and in depth answer! It will include how to set up your maintenance program, as well as maintenance tips, advice, and a clear explaination of what determines how and when to strip the… [cont.]

How much does it cost to professionally get hair dye stripped out of your hair?
Q. I recently dyed my hair black and its naturally dirty blond. I wanna get it stripped but last time I did it myself it came out like 4 colors. Does anybody know about how much it cost for them to do it at a hair salon?
Asked by Lindsey J - Sun Nov 18 23:33:04 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This is corrective haircolor and it is the most expensive salon color service, due to the amount of time involved and the amount of products needed to fix the problem. This is the primary reason why you should have a hairdresser color your hair, so it doesn't come out in 4 different colors. It would cost you less to have that done vs corrective. Most hairdressers charge by the hour for corrective, because it can take a lot of time and products. If a hairdresser normally can make $75 - $100 per hour, on an average day, due to the fact she could do 2 - 3 clients per hour, then more than likely, you can bank on paying about this rate. Hopefully, you will only be in the chair for 1 hour or 1 1/2 hours, so I imagine $100 - $150 will be the… [cont.]

Advice on rethreading a stripped screw hole on transmission fluid pan?
Q. I have a 2001 Chevy Cavalier. I had been noticing occasional drips of tranny fluid in 3 evenly spaced increments beneath my car. After trying to replace the gasket and filter I realized the people who I had work on my car months ago had stripped 3 holes and had "jerry-rigged" it with loads of silicone. Now I am going to have to rethread the holes to a slightly larger size. Any advice or product recommendations?? Thanks in advance!

A. i used to work on transmissions and i have had the problem you have many times the best way to fix it is with a heli coil, it replaces the threads that were there, your local auto parts store should have them

Q. in some spots :( When i look at them up close they are like see through. But when looking from a distance it looks brown where its stripped. So embarrassing! Looks worse than they ever did before trying to whiten :( Anyone know of any remedies for this problem? Thanks in advance! Thanks for suggesting a dentist but thats not so easy right now as I have no dental insurance. Any other ideas?
Asked by Sheena M - Sat Jun 14 01:27:52 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Instead of trying various home remedies, you should just break down and go see the dentist. If you have actually damaged the enamel, you will need a dentist to try to repair the damage. If you haven't actually done any damage, a dentist is also the best person to finish the whitening job right. A dentist may not be as inexpensive as the strips at the store, but it's safer in the long run and you don't risk making a bigger bill to fix things gone wrong.

How to remove a stripped screw from my car?
Q. a screw got stripped, which attaches the clutch to the transmission! We were using an impact gun to screw in the screws, then all of a sudden we heard this awkward noise and everybody looked at me because it was my car! then I asked the person with the impact gun what happened and he said it got stripped. Now The clutch needs readjusting, but I'm afraid If I try to take out the transmission to take out the clutch I can't, because of the stripped screw.
Asked by 99questions - Sat Jan 24 12:49:41 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Why the heck are you using an impact wrench to drive the clutch screws? You should be using a torque wrench! I'm assuming you mean "bolts", and not screws. Go to the local hardware store (or Sears, or a decent stocked auto store), and get a set of extractor sockets, making sure you know the size that you need, because sometimes they're sold individually. These sockets have a "tooth" to them that digs into the stripped bolt's head. Also bring one of the un-stripped bolts, so you can get a proper replacement bolt (being sure to buy the proper grade bolt!). If you have enough access to the area, I've also used the "redneck" approach, where I strongly attach my largest set of vice-grips onto the bolt, and I rap on the vice-grips until… [cont.]

Stripped the wallpaper and door frames. How to fix the underlying mess?
Q. We're remoldeling our 100+ yr old home. I've stripped wall paper and door frames. How do I fix the holes in plaster and smooth the walls before painting? Fiberglass mesh then joint compound or fix holes then joint compound? Whats the difference between the numbers on the compounds? I've seen 30, 45, and 90. How do I smooth the insides of the door frames, I'm down to the wooded framing. Do I cut down sheets of drywall or can I use the same technique as the walls?
Asked by Julie C - Fri Apr 4 10:03:54 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If the holes are shallow and not deep, then you should thin layer compound it, then mesh it and let it dry, then compound it again, let it dry and finally sand and paint it. As for the numbers, I am sure that has to do with the weight of the product. Some compounds are mixed with sand and weigh less and therefore dry faster. You can smooth wooded framing with a scrapper called sureform. As for the drywall, it depends on how much wall coverage your talking about...we recently cover our attic with very long sheets of drywall horizontally...it was more cost effective to do it this way.

A. I recommend going to SEARS and getting a small set of special screw drivers that help get out stripped screws. Ask if they have Screw and bolt extractors that match your size screw.
