Windshield Wiper stop return to vertical position instead of horizontal?
Q. I have a 1985 S-10 Blazer, I bought a windshield wiper motor to replace the old bad one. This one, everything works fine except when switched off, the wiper return to vertical instead of horizontal. Since there are only 4 wires into the unit, is there a way to correct this problem by just cut and rewire the external wires?

A. Wiper park switch is bad. It tells the motor what to do. dont reposition the wiper arms!!! You will break something.!! 1985 chevrolet blazer 5.0L 305cid V8 4BBL (H) : Wiper & Washer : Wiper Motor Pulse Board Module airtex part # 6H1384 w/Intermittent Wipers

How do I go about getting a new windshield wiper motor?
Q. We had a really severe storm with blinding rain. I believe my windshield wiper motor is not good anymore. It has 3 speed levels. The third speed seems just as slow moving like the 2nd speed for the windshield wipers. How do I go about getting a new windshield wiper motor???

A. Go to either Auto Zone, or any car repair place,Auto zone is good because they will test your wipers, and tell you if you need a new motor, and if you do, they very well may have one in their store, and probably would put it on for you!For a small charge! Its better to get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing first, before you spend out that kind of money for another one, when maybe all you need is the wires just came loose from the storm.

How do pine straw and leaves get underneath windshield wiper blades?
Q. My windshield wipers are in good condition, don't leave any streaks, no gaps between the blades and the windshield. So why on earth is that every time I get in my car there is either pine straw, twigs, or leaves under my windshield wiper blades?
Asked by Laiyla - Sun Dec 6 14:03:36 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You're under a tree? More precisely, you're in a location where there's enough wind to lift the blade slightly - which is enough wind to blow something under it.

What type of windshield wiper blades does a 2005 Chevy Cobalt use and where can I buy them?
Q. I bought a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt in that year, and I have not changed the wiper blades since. The blades seem to be wearing out (i.e. - They frequently fail to get about 15% of the water off of the areas they traverse), and I want to replace them. I don't know anything about windshield wiper blades. First of all, what type of blade does my car use? What is its designation? Secondly, from which stores can I cheaply buy decent brand replacements? Thanks.
Asked by funkervogt47 - Mon Feb 2 17:09:19 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The factory uses a special type of wiper blade on the cobalt cars. You do not need to replace the wiper blade unless its bent. You should stop by your local chevy dealers service dept. They can replace the wiper insert (rubber part) of the wiper blade and it will work like new again. This will also cost less than replaceing the wiper blade with a aftermarket blade that will not work as well or clean as well.Best of luck.

My windshield wiper blade wont run anymore, is there an easy way to verify/ fix it?
Q. I jumped in my car, there was a layer of snow (and unfortunately Ice) on my drivers side windshield. I turned on the wipers to get rid of it and only one blade (the Passengers side) turned. Since then the drivers side wiper blade doesnt work. How do I check the gear that turns the wiper blade? And Can I fix it myself?

A. Your wiper's arms are both connected to the motor via a set of arms that cause both wipers to move in a synchronized fashion. There are two likely spots where you most likely damaged your wiper by trying to push it through the snow. The first spot is where that arm connects to the individual wiper, usually hidden by a piece of plastic that screws down between your wipers. The next place is on the post where your wiper arm/blade itself attaches, on the outside of the car. Just about every car is different in how your blade attaches, but you should be able to figure it out pretty easily. Remove the entire arm and examine the post that it sits on. If you see lots of metal shavings, then thats your problem. Those shavings are supposed… [cont.]

How do I fix a broken automatic windshield wiper on a Lexus ES330?
Q. I have a 2004 Lexus ES330, just bought it used. I love it but the goofy automatic windshield wiper setting doesn't seem to work at all. (Why anyone would want an automatic raindrop sensor is beyond me, but I digress). Any ideas on how to troubleshoot it before I take it to the Lexu$ dealer? Thanks!
Asked by crufflerdoug - Fri Oct 26 23:30:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Usually when the windshield is replaced the automatic wiper sensor is installed without a a gel pad, or incorrectly. If not then the sensor is bad. This part is best installed by a Lexus technician, and is a dealer only item, ie it can only be purchased through lexus.

Why are my windshield wiper blades colliding with each other?
Q. I'm having problems with my wiper blades, they hit each other and one actually bent so I bought some new wiper blades and thought that would fix it but they're still doing the same thing. The right side wiper is fine but the left one will stutter and get stuck sometimes causing the right one to crash into it. What is wrong?

A. one of the wiper blades has frozen to the windshield and striped the wiper arm causing it to get out of time with the other. turn the wipers off and let them park in the off position then take the one that is not down off position and move it down to where it should be and tighten the mounting nut to lock it in place.

A. On the wiper motor there is a pump,it has two hose hookups the same size as a vaccuum line 1/4",one is in one is out to the spray nozzles in the grating in front of the wipers, hook hose from tank to one and hose from pump to the sray nozzles, try it,if it does not spray switch hose hookups at the pump and try again.

What is the wiper in a thermostat? And how does it affect my electric bill?
Q. I'm concerned about my heater coming on too much and making my electric bill too high. I'm sure it has something to do with the "wiper" inside the cover of the thermostat. But I don't know enough about it to know for sure. Can someone help me understand what the wiper is, and how it relates to my electric bill?

A. It could help to know the type of thermostat you have. I have never heard of a "wiper" in a thermostat but that doesn't mean there isn't something of that description in some of them. All thermostats work basically in the same manner... there's a sensor of some type that senses the ambient air temp, when it drops a certain number of degrees below the preset temp the unit sends a command to the furnace to come on. After the furnace heats up, the blower is tripped by a heat sensor in the furnace and operates until the ambient air temp reaches the preset limit. The unit then sends the command to the furnace to shut down. The blower continues to run until the temp in the furnace reaches the cut-off point then it shuts down. The sensors in… [cont.]

How big of a wiper blade can I use on the rear hatch of an 06 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
Q. The suggested wiper size for the rear hatch on an 06 Mits Eclipse is 17" (the drive side is 24" while the passenger side is 22"), does anyone who owns an 06+ Eclipse use a rear wiper blade that is larger than 17 inches? If so, how big? If not, would you recommend using the 17" or a larger blade because the 17" blade is rather small.
Asked by Jonathan D - Sun Aug 30 20:49:24 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Look at your 17" blade. If you can spare another inch or two, and it won't hit anything on the back, of course you can go bigger.

A. the wiper motor is located under the plastic bulkhead strip, the wiper arms stick through it. it is held down by plastic clips/ screws, they always break about 2.50 for ten from bmw dealer, once trim is removed the motor is easily changed over, gently pull off arms at ball sockets, undo elec block conector and remove mountains screws, i think there are four screws, refit in reverse order. good idea to lube linkage while you are at it.

A. No special tool. Just pull the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stands on it's own and tug the wiper arm off it's hub, It will take a bit of wiggling but, it'll come off. Be sure to mark where the wiper was before you took it off.

How can I remove a lock washer from a wiper post?
Q. Wiper blade assembly has been secured to one of my wiper blade posts by a lock washer. Washer has been inserted into the grove on the wiper blade post. I can not get a dremel into position to where I can cut the washer. I have tried to use a thin screwdriver with no results. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!!!
Asked by surewinder32 - Sat Jul 19 17:42:14 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most wiper blade arms are secured by a nut or a sliding lever lock device that is part of the arm itself. The lever device usually requires the arm to be pulled up past a certain position to allow the latch to slide over to release the arm. If what you see is not that, but looks like a star washer with widely spaced square fingers holding onto the shaft, possibly in a slot, then those are actually one way clips and not washers that are used to hold onto shafts and are just pressed on. Try prying up the fingers one at a time until it loosens enough to come off, then re-flatten the clip to reuse it when you're ready. You can probably find replacements at a hardware or auto parts store or at a car dealer's parts counter. Best of luck.

A. The fuse you are looking for is to the left of the steering wheel, behind an access panel. The interior fuse box , fuse #15 is for the rear wiper, it should be a ten amp fuse. When looking at the front of the fuse panel, it will be the second fuse from the bottom on the right side row of fuses.
